Admission Requirements

The Advanced School-Based Speech-Language Pathology Master's Certificate is offered through the Communication Sciences and Disorders Program of the University of Arkansas College of Education and Health Professions.

ASLPMC applicants must meet the following requirement to be considered for admission to this certificate program:

Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or related area from an accredited institution

The certificate program is a 15-credit hour program consisting of 5 academic courses. The first 4 classes are 8-week courses that do not overlap, while the fifth course is a 5-week summer course. The Program of Study has a detailed outline of the curriculum. All courses are provided online, and no on-campus meetings are required to complete the program. This program begins in the fall each year.

Upon completion of the program, students will receive 15 graduate-level credit hours on their transcript, meeting the professional development requirements set by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

The certificate counts as a concentration for the Educational Specialist degree program in Curriculum and Instruction. This program is a 33-credit hour program and is also offered online. The 15 credit hours required for the certificate program count toward the 33-credit hours needed for the Ed.S. Students must apply to both the Ed.S. degree and the ASLPMC programs.

ASLPMC Admissions Process

To apply to the Advanced School-Based Speech-Language Pathology Certificate program, students must apply to the Graduate School at the University of Arkansas by Aug. 1.

  1. Apply to the Graduate School as a new-degree seeking student
  2. Create an account to start a new application. Be sure to activate your PIN code that is sent to your new email
  3. Select Advanced School-Based Speech-Language Pathology Certificate Program
  4. Select the fall semester in which you would like to begin the program
  5. Choose 100% online
  6. Complete the application prompts
  7. Submit the application fee to be processed

ASLPMC + Ed.S. Degree Admissions Process

To apply to the Advanced School-Based Speech-Language Pathology Certificate program and the Ed.S. degree program, students must apply to the Graduate School at the University of Arkansas by Aug. 1. Students must apply to both programs to receive credit. After applying to the Ed.S. degree program, there is no additional fee to apply to the ASLPMC program — follow the steps listed above.

  1. Apply to the Graduate School as a degree-seeking student
  2. Create an account to start a new application. Be sure to activate your PIN code that is sent to your new email
  3. Select Graduate Specialist as the Level of Study
  4. Select the program Curriculum and Instruction — EDS (Advanced School-Based Speech Language Pathology Concentration
  5. Select the fall semester in which you would like to begin the program
  6. Complete the application prompts
  7. Submit the application fee to be processed

Admissions Process for a Single Course

For students interested in a single course that is part of the certificate, the application process is as follows:

  1. Apply to the Graduate School
    • Apply by Aug. 1 for fall courses
    • Apply by Dec. 1 for spring courses
    • Apply by April 15 for summer courses
  2. Create an account to start a new application. Be sure to activate your PIN code that is sent to your new email
  3. Start a new application with Graduate Admissions
  4. Complete the non-degree seeking application
  5. Select the semester in which you would like to begin the program under Term Information and choose "Yes" that you intend to take courses online
  6. Complete the application prompts
  7. Submit the application fee to be processed
